This small and rather rough sculpture, found near the rectory corner, is not of a Roman eagle.  Expert of experts the Revd Prof. Martin Henig has now seen it in the round, and identifies it as a 17th-18th century dove, perhaps one of a pair on a wall coping.  But still considered sufficiently important to have been written up by him in BGAS Transactions, the county's annual archaeological journal.
